Symposium – Gender equality in science, technology and innovation and higher education institutions: progress, reflections and proposals.

The symposium “Gender equality in science, technology, innovation and higher education institutions: advances, reflections and proposals” was held on September 18 at the Cultural Center of Science in Buenos Aires. It was co-organized by the UNESCO Regional Chair Women, Science and Technology (FLACSO, Argentina) and the National Program for Gender Equality of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Argentina.

Its main purpose was to reflect on the processes and progress related to the integration of the gender equality approach in science, technology and innovation (STI) organizations and higher education institutions in Latin America and Europe. National and international specialists and high authorities of STI organizations and higher education institutions shared their experiences, reflections and new proposals.

The event was opened by Gloria Bonder, Director of the UNESCO Regional Chair on Women, Science and Technology in Latin America (FLACSO, Argentina) and Gabriela Dranovsky, Undersecretary of Institutional Evaluation (MINCYT, Argentina). The closing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Daniel Filmus, and the Director of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science in Latin America and the Caribbean, Ernesto Fernández Polcuch.

The symposium had four round tables: “Advances and challenges in the development and implementation of gender equality policies in science and technology organizations in Argentina”; “Achievements and future projections in the implementation of science and technology policies with a gender perspective in the national and provincial public administration”; “Foundations, results and lessons learned from gender equality policies in universities in Argentina”; and “Foundations, results and lessons learned from gender equality policies in universities in Latin America and Europe”.
